The Upper Iowa University (UIU) Art and Graphic Design departments will host the return of the Northeast Iowa High School Art Show in the Student Center ballrooms at UIU Fayette Campus Wednesday, April 6. UIU has been involved in the high school art show for over 30 years.

Students will begin the day at 8:30 a.m. in the student center ballrooms preparing for the juried exhibition. The student works will include printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, computer graphics, craft, photography and mixed media. Current UIU Art and Graphic Design students will conduct demonstrations and talks alongside faculty. Participating students will take a tour of the current Bing-Davis Memorial Art Gallery exhibition by juror Cynthia Hellyer-Heinz as part of the event’s art education program.

Awards will be presented at 12:30 p.m. Judging the event will be artist and educator Cynthia Hellyer Heinz. Heinz is an associate professor in drawing and foundations at Northern Illinois University. An active artist and illustrator, her drawings have been exhibited in museums and galleries, and featured in books and journals. The exhibit is open to the public from 12:30-2 p.m.

Some 125 high school students are registered from Edgewood-Colesburg Jr. Sr. High, Turkey Valley Community School, North Butler High School, Central High School, John R Mott High School- Postville, Starmont High School, South Winneshiek High School, North Fayette Valley High School, and Decorah High School.
