FAYETTE, Iowa (June 21, 2019) – Competition is currently underway for the 2020-21 Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs for one academic year in a participating country outside the U.S.
During the grant, participants live, work, and learn from the people of the host country. Fulbright promotes cultural exchange and understanding through direct interaction and engagement with their host country. The application deadline is in the fall, and the program itself is for the following academic year. This program is meant for recent graduates, graduate level students and young professionals. College seniors are encouraged to apply.
The grant benefits include round-trip transportation, funding to cover room, board, incidental costs, accident and sickness health benefits, and a 24/7 support line for urgent and nonurgent situations. In some countries, grants may also include book and research allowances, midterm enrichment activities, full or partial tuition, language study programs, and predeparture and in-country orientations. Available grants
Open Study/Research Awards – The Fulbright Study/Research Award is the traditional award opportunity where a candidate designs a proposal for a specific country. There are also research grants for specific fields.
English Teaching Assistant – The Fulbright programs place grantees in schools overseas to supplement local English language instruction and to provide a native speaker presence in the classrooms.
Special Programs – There are also three special programs as well.

Contact the Fulbright Program advisor at Upper Iowa University to begin working on an application. The internal deadline for UIU students is Tuesday, September 10. A Campus interview will follow to provide guidance with the application. The national deadline for the application, after the campus interview and revisions, is Tuesday, October 8. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the largest U.S. exchange program offering opportunities for students and young professionals (five years or less experience in their respective fields) to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and primary and secondary school teaching worldwide.
