FAYETTE, Iowa (March 15, 2019) – An Amboy, Illinois, native has been elected Upper Iowa University Student Government Association (SGA) president. Kelsey Simpson, a junior graphic design major, was recently elected alongside four additional officers at UIU’s Fayette Campus for the 2019-20 academic year.

“I chose to run for Student Government president because I would like to leave my mark on this university,” Simpson said. “While in office, I intend to do the best I can in making changes that best benefit the students and UIU.”

Simpson, who plans to seek a career in sports marketing following her UIU education, is a member of Gamma Delta Phi, Dance Marathon, Peacock Entertainment Crew, and the women’s track and field team.

In addition to Simpson, the newly elected 2019-20 Upper Iowa University SGA officers are as follows:

Vice President Breyanna Hill was re-elected to her SGA position. A junior elementary education major from Oskaloosa, Iowa, she has earned her art, reading and special education endorsements. Hill is involved in PEEPS (Peacock Experience: Encouraging a Positive Start), Chi Alpha, Gamma Delta Phi and the women’s track team.

“I decided to run again for student government so I could remain more involved on Campus,” said Hill. “I also wanted to provide a voice that could make a difference for all students. I had the opportunity to serve on student council each of the four years I was in high school. I have always enjoyed devoting my time to student government activities and I wanted to continue to do so in college.”

Secretary Alyson Carroll is a sophomore from Oswego, Illinois. Majoring in special education at UIU, Alyson has earned her language arts, reading and English as a Second Language endorsements. She is currently involved in Best Buddies and Dance Marathon at Fayette Campus.

“I wanted to run for student government because I enjoy helping my classmates and the community,” Carroll said. “Student Government provides students the opportunity to use their power of voice in making a difference at UIU and beyond.”

Treasurer Riley Braughton ‘18 was re-elected to his SGA position. A graduate student in UIU’s MBA program, Riley double majored in accounting and financial management. He is active in PEEPS and Peacock baseball. A native of Stanwood, Iowa, Braughton plans to become a public accountant or financial advisor.

“I decided to run again for Student Government because I wanted to continue being actively involved on Campus,” Braughton said.

Extended University Officer Daniel Lem is a junior from Pusat Bandar Puchong, Malaysia. Double majoring in psychology and communication studies, Lem is involved in Chi Alpha and Student Activities.

“I wanted to run for student government because I wanted to be more involved with the University and expose myself to more experiences,” Lem said. “Of course, I also wanted to use this opportunity to extend the vision of the student body into the future. Education is not temporary. It lasts eternally and helps unfold what our future holds. I will do my best to help students get the most out of their college experience.”

SGA agendas are emailed to UIU students before every scheduled meeting. Unless otherwise notified, all meetings are held at 12:15 p.m. every other Monday in the Student Center Ballroom at Fayette Campus. For additional information, contact [email protected].
